Question Water Temperature

Right I dunno what Subaru have done to my car but I believe they've done something wrong.

Basically my water pump lunched itself & so I took it to Subaru to get it replaced. Prior to taking the car to them the water temp sat at a constant 87 degrees until I got stuck in traffic. Then it would rise to 91 degrees, at which point the fan would kick in & it would reduce back to 87/88 degrees before it switched off.

Now since the water pump has been replaced my water temperature sits at a constant 91 degrees, which is not good considering that that's when the fan kicks in! So basically the fan is now on constantly and the water temp doesn't go below 91 degrees. In fact it sometimes goes up to 93/94 degrees (even in this cold weather).

The only time the water temperature drops down to 87 degrees is when I floor it through the gears, but as soon as I go back to cruising it rises back to 91 degrees! It seems that the harder I drive the cooler the water gets?

Any ideas? I'm thinking of calling Subaru and telling them that they've charged me $hit loads for a cr@p job!

The water levels seem fine. Perhaps it's worth draining the system & running it through again? Complete re-bleed?

Another question. Would they have needed to remove my headers to replace the water pump? I only ask because they are now blowing.

Thanks

Thermostat ? maby they also removed this or changed it when replacing the pump. Also cant see any reason to remove the headers.

They would have gone nowhere near the headers, but they would have taken the cambelt off - sometimes removing the rad as its easier access. Its a good time to replace the cambelt since you're paying for the labour anyway

sounds like low coolant level. The perils of going to Subaru to have your car fixed

Tell me about it

I did drain a load of water/coolant out & topped the coolant levels up but still no change. Might do a full bleed once my headers are sorted It never ends! LOL

Do NOT let Subaru fit a non genuine water pump to your Subaru! The one they fitted only had 5 fins whereas the new one they've just replaced it with (Free of charge!) has 6. It meant that the water wasn't circulating quick enough & so was running 5 degrees hotter than normal

All sorted now though

Wink

Thermostat went first so I replaced it. I think however the damage had been done which is why the rad went. Then the bleedin water pump went, which I* guess is another direct result of the thermostat i.e. too much heat & pressure built up.

It was funny coz when I told them that the water just would not cool down enough to switch the fans off they instantly thought it was either a sensor, something i'd done.....anything but the water pump they fitted

I got great pleasure in saying "I told you so!" LOL
