Question Will I see a benefit from a remap?

My MY03 WRX is unmodified (apart from a K&N panel filter) - I prefer it to look standard. I am tempted by a remap BUT am I going to notice the difference? Most of my driving is in traffic or on motorways. A bit more low to midrange torque would be good. Of course a few more horses at the top end wouldn't be refused but that isn't a main priority. I don't want to reduce the 27mpg I get too much either as I do a lot of miles at the moment.

Any views, especially from mappers, would be appreciated.

Regards

Francis K

you will probably find a remap will help with economy, mine did, i now get another 40 - 60 miles per tank on mine since I have had it done.
If your car is more or less standard though, you may not see as much of a benefit.

Yes, i was about to say that on an unmodded car you won't
notice the benefit as much as say on a car that had just had
a full decat fitted.

But as said, you should notice an improvement in economy which
can't be a bad thing on a Scoob !!

its a lot of money to get a map, are you sure it is worth it?
yes you can get better economy but 40 miles is about a gallon and a half isnt it at 27mpg.
so, at say 90p per litre...
thats about a 5 or 6 quid saving on each tank, if you go for ecutek then thats 650 odd, about a hundred tank fulls.

all of that is assuming you dont use any extra boost or any further remaps or mods etc etc.

You would achieve more worthwhile gains if you can even partially decat the exhaust first. Downpipe decat and backbox will allow approx 265bhp with a custom remap although the main difference is in the increased midrange torque and earlier boost.
I agree with Peanuts that custom remap on a completely standard wrx at even £500 is not very good value for money. Approx +15bhp can be gained on the std car with a Tek2 map (£300) which is similar to the PPP. Part decat on Tek 2 will normally see 255bhp.

Thumbs up

Thanks Andy, looks like a Tek2 map is a good starting point.

Any other mappers got an opinion?
