06 Sti has Smaller Intercooler Scoop than Sti8 For Better Cooling !!
According to japanese Performance Mag the 06 Sti has a smaller intercooler scoop for better cooling, Very similar to the Sti7 in size etc

So are all these Sti8 aftermarket scoops purely for looks & not Purpose ??
You would think that a larger aperture would indeed collect more air !!
But is it again down to the old rule of force, I.e blow in a small tube & you get a higher exit pressure than a larger bore one ???

I was told by a salesman that it's also wider..................dunno if that's true though.
The longer snout of the 06 means that the new scoop does not have to be so tall ...
