Default changeing ecu

just put a different ecu in car and would like to know

do you have to reset it once you have connected it to your car?
how long does it take before the ecu is fully reset?
do you have to disconected the battery when changeing or not as i did not?

thanks matt

Just plug the male and female connectors together under the dash on the drivers side. these connections are green and black....ignition off, connect then turn on ignition and hold your pedal to the floor for a couple of seconds.. then lift off to the halfway point for a further couple of seconds, take foot off pedal and look at cel light, it should start pulsing and you should here some funny noises coming from under the bonnet (dont worry)......start engine and take for a drive keep revs over 1500, after 1 min or so the cel light will flash, now if the light pulses the same every second then theres no faults but if the light pulses with different gaps theres a fault somewhere. now after you have worked out if its fine or not then disconnect plugs (ecu reset) now take her for a drive, dont drive hard until later after its learnt its parameters, this will take a long drive btw....approx 50 miles! but do vary your driving.

ps: give her some optimax or tesco 99 and enjoy!

No its prob reset now anyway because you have swapped the ecu`s. when you unplug the connectors if you want to do it properly it will be reset, it will then learn its new parameters. the engine timing will will retard if it detects knock, and then once its learnt all its parameters it will be fine...i say 50 miles but it might be less.
