Cleaning Boost Soleniod...any tips plz!
Hello Im not far off setting fire to my 93wrx but before i do Id like to try and clean the boost soleniod. Has anyone got any visual aids or pics plz.
The car is driving like a bag of sh*te. Ive managed to clear all the error codes and then this. Im putting a new set of spark plugs in tonight as they are due a change (hopefully that could be it!!) and maybe try and clean the boost soleniod.
If that doesnt work has anyone got a light?

Remove solenoid, remove hoses (label them!), turn solenoid upside down and rest on a cloth. Join green test mode connectors under dash and switch on ignition. Car will now cycle all under bonnet electrical systems (mad-cow mode - keep loose clothing away from cooling fans
). Spray brake cleaner into solenoid orifices as it is being cycled by ECU. I'd also strip and clean all boost pipework, but be real sure to put them back in right place.
Note that problems with the solenoid normally cause overboost and fuel-cut.

Disagree.... solenoid probs usually cause lack of boost.
Uusually casued by the vent port being blocked.
Make sure you leave the solenoid connected (wiring) when you remove it as it wont open and close otherwise
Very good advice apart from that... ESP The FANS!

Thanks chaps, where's me lighter gone!!! Arrrrrghh!!
swift or lack of!
Fair enough Rob, I only really work on the phase 2's with 2 port solenoids and have never had lack of boost caused by a solenoid, only too much. Is it the early cars that suffer from lack of boost? And only the 3 port variants?
Thanks, Richard
Thanks, Richard
