Question CEL on after decat downpipe on newage - anyone know why?

I got a decat downpipe fitted on Friday on a MY01 bugeye - I kept the centre cat. There are no EGT sensors in the downpipe but the CEL came on during a motorway journey today .

I assume that it's the EGT sensor on the centre cat but why would it come on with a downpipe change?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Derek

Thats not a EGT sensor in the downpipe (under car) thats the rear 02 sensor. You will need to fit an electronic CEL fix or the cheaper Mechanical version.

Check out the last two items on the bottom of the page:

Thanks mate but I didn't think that there were any sensors in the downpipe of a newage WRX. There's one in the uppipe and one in the centre cat so decatting the downpipe only shouldn't affect these sensors - should it?

Actually there is an 02 sensor in the exhaust manifold, EGT probe in the up-pipe and another 02 sensor right behind the 3rd cat (under the car). SO yes if you decat the car at all you will need a CEL fix. I needed one for a catless up-pipe, and one for the rear 02 after installing my catless TBE.

Thanks BVM. I guess I need a CEL fix. Tried searching but couldn't find a description of how to do it for the rear O2 sensor. I'll try again tomorrow.

Cheers,
Derek

If you are planning to get an ECUTEK remap done (to get the best out of your decat mod) you can get the rear O2 sensor error code "disabled" at the same time, saving you the bother of buying a CEL fix.

Mark.

Mark beat me to it

I was going to say that en EcuTeK remap can remove the P0420 CEL (cat below efficiency) from de-catting permanently.........and release a noticable amount of power

I had a Scobysport CEL fix for my MY02 bugeye and it never really worked 100%.
