Default Heat shield on top of turbo do i need it

Just had a rebuild and the garage have left the heat shield of the motor this is the one on the left hand side that covers the b/off valve.
Is it an integral peice of kit?
Been advised without it it could could cause heat soak and **** the running?

Actually its idling badly at the mo (see other post)

Cheers
Chris

its always best to protect as much as you can from excess heat, given that the turbo is right next to the intercooler/warmer turbos run very very hot indeed, 8-900 degrees C i read somewhere!

Did the garage just leave it off or have you got it?

garage left it off with a number of important looking nuts/bolts

have a mate at a local garage who will have it up on the ramps tomorow to give it the once over.

Ill second that, the turbo blanket wrap is about £100 and will insulate the turbo much better than the protective heat sheild.

it could boil your brake fluid for a start

Anything plastic nearby could melt, generally not a good idea to go without one.
