any info Turbo Dynamics MD191 Turbo
Can anyone offer any info on this turbo please? Would it behave in a similar way to a TD05/0620G? What would be the max power it could manage?
Cheers

Hi Terry,
Ask Mark at Lateral Performance ( R19KET ) as it's most likely 1 of his spec turbo's.
Colin.
ps car looks good, lot better than your old P1 with bling gold alloys.

I had an MD195 - which may have been the same Turbo? - but I think it had a different compressor wheel and is a Turbo from Turbo Dynamics - think it produced less power than the md195
If its the same as an MD195 it will be much more laggy than a TD05/06 but will produce comparable top end power, maybe a little less
Thats what the difference was between my md196 and a td05/06 which I also had
If I had to chose between them I'd go for a td05/06 all the time.

I spoke to TD today and they gave me the following details
Roller-ball bearings
49.5mm compressor wheel
P20 housing
Does all that mean anything to you guys??
I don't think it is too laggy from the way it performs - but then it is on a RA with short ratio box.
Cheers

I'm still waiting for a spin in your STI.

Ok - its the one with the smaller compressor wheel, but has reasonable top end power as it has a P20 Exhuast housing
The power will be dependent on whose rollers. I would say that at somewhere like PE, G Force or Powerstation 370bhp would be very optimistic - probably get closer to 330-340bhp
The MD195 maxed at about 345bhp at PS and it was a bigger Turbo (It got 407 bhp at Well Lane the following day )
You see what I mean about widely varying rolling roads!
The TD05/06 on Optimax and Booster on the other hand will achieve a realistically higher power figure. 350-370bhp is proven on most rollers and for the same mods it will achieve more power with less lag than the MD191
Having had several Turbo's I would not go for the MD191 - Unless its at a bargain second hand price - I sold a mint MD195 for £500 - it had done about 10k miles

Cheeky bugger. My problem with the TD05/06 is that it could not quite do what I expected it - what with all the hype and people talking about 400bhp plus numbers.......... yes it will get over 400bhp, but not on Optimax alone (again though note comments above on variability of rolling roads)
That is what my gripes are about - the quoted and expected power. I have been to many a rolling road with a lot of pissed off people who dont get anywhere near what they expected
However for the money and if you want a nice 350-38bhp on standard internals and minimum hassles this would be my Turbo of choice - i.e. I'm comparing against a TD turbo - and whilst I currently have a TD Turbo myself I have nothing but sheer contempt for the quality of the Turbo's - the amount of problems I have had, I would put them on a par with Mcdonalds for Burger quality - note that this is my personal opinion (from having owned a lot and not the opinion of Scoobynet!)
and when your next at a RR I'll take you for a spin - at least the engine is working 100% at the moment (for the 3000 miles a year I drive it!)
If I keep my Scoob I'll be looking at a Nitrous set up to give it a comfortable 500bhp+ power amount
