Default Swapping ECU's over . .

As i'm selling my car, I'm going to be swapping my EcuTek'd ECU out of my 04 WRX with someone else's standard PPP ECU, thats in a 02 WRX. Will the keys need to be re-coded by the dealers for the imobiliser or will the cars start as normal once the ECU's are swapped?

Cheers
Simon

My advise is not to bother. The ecutek ECU isn't going to be ideal on another car, and you're looking at spending upwards of £350 to get it remapped to suit the new car.

Yes the keys will need to be recoded.

By the time you've paid to have the keys coded, and messed about remapping the ECU properly, you and the person you are planning on selling the ECU to are wasting your time.

The ECUTek was mapped at Scoobyclinic for my car with a full decat exhaust, with no other mods, the persons car it is going on has my old exhaust and decat downpipe, so should the ECU operate okay on his car, as its running the exact same setup I had on mine. Thought it should be a straight swap over, other than the keys. . but not too clued up on all this!

Cheers for your help so far

If those are the only changes, then it may be an okay swap. I would still be wary of swapping ECU models between different years of car on the assumption that they are the same.

It can't be done without a reflash, you'll get a CEL as the ECU is looking for alternator control which isn't there.

Yup needs reflashing with the right code, key synchronisation is a 2 min job, not something I would charge for.

So to put it in simple terms swap over ecu's and then get them coded for all the keys and reflash for the cel..?

to reflash the ecu's will require an ecutek license, so it means buying one in addition to everything else, and ideally you need to reflash over the ecutek remap! So hardly worth it seeing as that license is the thing you're trying to avoid paying for.
