Question 93 WRX holding back on high revs

Been to look at a 93 WRX which is holding back on high revs but apart from that drives fine. The car is standard apart from a panel filter and cat back exhaust.
The car drives fine on half throttle but from around 5K starts to play up. The car has covered 70,000 miles and has had a new turbo and oxygen sensor.

Any ideas what could be wrong chaps?

Thanks

Can you describe the symptons in a little more detail; what do you mean by holding back?

If it's a misfire then it could be something as simple as a faulty coil pack, then again it could be worse. Why and how long ago was the new turbo fitted and what type is it?

Sounds very much like a coil pack or plugs.
Plugs are £30 plus a set.
Coil packs are about £220 for four.
Where are you located?

If you are near Oxford, have a word with Len from Subaru4U. He's in Newbury and can be contacted on 01636 35355. I had exactly the same problem on my 1994 WRX and we tried changing the spark plugs and then all the coil packs. It turned out to be the fuel pump in the end, £90 delivered for an uprated one.

The car used to hesitate and hold back on full throttle but pulled fine if you lifted of the accelerator slightly. Now it's all cured and goed even bertter with the full de-cat!!

I could be something as simple as that or it could be even more serious. If you really like the car then go for it and use it as a bargaining tool. But there are loads of WRX's around so the choice is yours.

Good luck!!

Ben
