Not a super tech but it is straight forward.
You can run a proprietary cooling system flush if you want but if the system is in good order, it is not necessary.
Ensure heater controls are to "Hot"
You must run with antifreeze and you can get this from Halfords or where ever. Follow the dilution instructions.Get enough for top up requirements. There will be blue or red. Stick to the same one. Always. Most are long life now so do not need regular changing.
After the initial fill, run for a few minutes and recheck. Do this a couple of times over the next couple of days.
Don't forget to fill the expansion bottle to the lavel mark.

As above but in addition I would firstly fill the system as follows.

Fill the engine block through to top hose slowly.

Fill the rad through the top hose connection then fit the top hose.

Then fill the expansion tank.

I had all sorts of overheating problems recently and found it was an air lock.

Good luck. Mark.

Within the first few months of Scooby ownership my rad decided to let go. I managed to get one from an independant Subaru "specialist " in the midlands. I collected the rad and within a hour or so was fitted. As I was very new to the Scooby I was worried about airlocks etc so called the Subaru "specialist " who informed me that Subaru water system had to be filled under a vacuum?!?After transporting the car to them they connected a venturi type gizmo to the expansion tank until the gauge read -10 psi. They then held it there testing for leaks ?!? And procedded to fill with coolant thou the gizmo.

They then charged me for the privalige.

I have since twice drained the coolant system and filled it as normal with no problems. Anybody else been told anything like this?
