Question HELP Ninja 4" too short - JDM MY01 STi

Have a JDM MY01 STi and am trying to change the exhaust system. Recently got hold of a Ninja BB and centre and tried to fit it this weekend only the centre is 4 inches too short !!!!!

Had a search on here and have found one or too references to the fact that the JDM MY01 STi has a different exhaust but not what to do about it. As far as I can see the exhaust is in 3 parts not 4 like the later (UK) cars with no separate cat pipe at the front. It would appear that there is a cat in the downpipe and another (I think) in the centre. Can anyone help answer the following questions.

1. If I change the whole exhaust (ie BB, Centre, Front pipe and down pipe) will this cure the length of pipe issues. I’m assuming that a whole new system will?

2. I’m thinking of fitting a prodrive sports cat downpipe – will this lead to boost spiking without a remap?

I saw an earlier post in my search that stated that “a brass restrictor” could be fitted somewhere to stop spiking and that I could if I wanted fit a full decat without spiking problems – is this true?

Can someone explain where/how the restrictor can be fitted?

Any advice would be appreciated

Here is the reply to my request for info to Scoobyworld - very helpful chaps (and quick too)

Hello,

Your findings are spot on. The Japanese New Age Imprezas have the same
exhaust layout as the old 1993-2000 Imprezas (3 piece). Therefore your Ninja
centre section will not fit as you have found out. The back box should be
fine. The only way to sort this is for you to buy a new centre section
remembering that you need one designed for the older 1993-2000 cars. From us
that would be £94.99 for a unsilenced Afterburner decat centre and £129.99
for a silenced Ninja decat centre pipe. These would be fine with your back
box and standard downpipe. Subsequently if you wanted a downpipe you need to
buy a 1993-2000 downpipe. To further complicate things if your STI has a
twin scroll turbo you need a specially made twin scroll downpipe.

Best Regards

I've got a std classic JDM decat centre in as new condition for £20 plus P & P.
Alternatively, I have a Prodrive Sports cat downpipe and Prodrive decat short centre section for considerably more money.
