Default Exhaust Mods

Hi All,

I have a 51 Bug-eye WRX and i'm looking for confirmation on something...

I would like to do the following to the exhaust....

De-Cat Up-Pipe
Remove Centre Cat
Remove Resonator

Can someone advise me on an approx price for the above 3 labour wise, if i provided a garage with the three necessary pipes roughly what would i be talking.... also, as someone who doesn't have vast experience but is reasonably competent when it comes to a screwdriver and a spanner do you think the any of it is acheivable on my own??

Hmmmm, one hour?

I had an up pipe changed on my 02WRX last week and that alone took over two hours, with a bit of chatting and question asking from me.

I would say expect to pay around three hours for those three items mate. IMHO

Chris, are you talking about the up-pipe or the downpipe? unusual to want to remove the up-pipe and not do the downpipe, given that the 'up' is the most time consuming to get to it you have to take off the 'down'..

Scooby manina, do you mean the the up pipe?, if they did that for £65 in an hour, I'll be booking mine in tomorrow!!

one thing worth thinking about, if your new up-pipe doesnt have an egt bung you'll need to put a 1/2 watt 2.2k resistor in the egt socket on your car to stop the cel light coming on. If your up-pipe does have a bung you can simply refit the egt sensor, although if you later get a remap it might be best to ditch it as they sometimes fail.
did it to my 52 plate wrx at powerstation and it worked a treat.

The reason for the up-pipe change and not downpipe is MOT's, don't want anything that will fail an MOT due to emmisions so i would rather just take out the up-pipe and centre cat......

Default 1 hour fit

Rightio.... Where do i start.. Now im not that hot on cars ... But they took the pipe out coming from the turbo going all the way to the mid section and put the lamba sensor back on to the pipe they fitted.. And all the cats that went with it along the way.. They had to take the Intercooler off to get to the turbo and then dismanteled it from there and it took them 1 hour ....

They are **** hot with scoobies... They dyno for me afterwards .....

It was pushing 250bhp .. But i know i have a problem with some top end hesitation

Gotcha, that sounds like you had the downpipe cat and the centre section cat removed then, the up-pipe will still be in place.. I'm no expert myself, but I've read a few times on here that leaving just the up-pipe cat in place is a little risky as being the only cat left it can overheat, break up and being 'in front' of the turbo if it goes bits will end up in the turbo.. I've been advised by the guys who mapped my car to remove the up-pipe cat on mine even though I've still got the downpipe cat, for the same reason, although it is more of a potential issue if you are runnig higher than standard boost generating additional heat.

Suggest it's worth you doing a search on here or speaking to a specialist..
