Quite a few people have done this mod with good results.

I cant remember the thread but if you search you should find it.

I sold an STI cooler from a 98 car for £125. You should find one on here in the for sale section.

here or ebay are your easiest places to look, probably an STi5 one to start with seeing as you've got the phase one manifold, should just about fit, you'll need to change manifolds if you want to go the STi8 route

how do you know with the paper on?

The slanty IC only has one intake where the later one have a "Y" pipe from the turbo to split the air for 2 intakes.

The MY97/98 and MY99/00 IC will fit but you need some sort of "Y" piece.
Plus you will need to cut about 5-10mm off the IC outlet and manifold inlet as the early inlet manifold sits slightly further back.
You'll also need to make support bracket up unless you can get and modify the later ones.
The dump valve on the early car is pre IC and the later cars are after/mounted on the IC. You may find the MY99/00 IC DV mount catches on the Idle control valve. So a solution to that is needed too Whether it is cut it off and weld a piupe on or weld it up and fit the DV pre IC is up to you

You don't need to cut the throttle body, if you "modify" the lip on the bulkhead. Modified mine with an angle grinder and a lump hammer.

In the process of getting a pipe fitted to the driverside of the Ic to fit the DV there, with a alloy blanking plate bolted on the old mounts
