hesitation problem

Unhappy hesitation problem

hi wonder if any of you guys can shed any light on this prob. for the past couple days now when i accelerate its gets to around 4000rpm and it will hesitate and starts to misfire (had flames shooting out the exhaust). if i change down a gear then back up its fine however, also the car seems to be using more fuel than usual.Also seems to be an intermittent problem as when i tookthe mechanic out in it it seemed fine yet on the way home its playing up again. Have checked the ecu and it does not seem to be showing any fault code Any ideas? its a 96 jdm sti by the way

Hia mate i have this problem on a 2001 bug eye... still have not got an answer on this problem, mine is intermmitent too... anyone here got a clue ..........

Sounds like a coil pack problem to me, usual sypmtoms which will get worse as time goes on.

Regap the plugs to .5mm and see if it goes away, if it does then you have a coil pack breaking down.

When did you last have a plug change out of interest?

had the car about 9 months mate so have not had the plugs changed yet. do you reckon thats worth a go before changing the coil packs?

got fed up and finally took it to the garage today, turns out it was the maf sensor and the air idle solanoid should be all done by the end of the week

yeah showed up fault code 23&24 hopefully have a maf sorted though
