Squeeling brakes!!!! AHHHHHHGGG!!!
Hi. I've got a MY02 WRX and had new brake pads fitted to the front. When I brake I get the most annoying squeely noise just before I come to a halt. Sounds like an old bus!!! I've taken the pads off and copper eased all the backs of the pads and stuff but still no change. Could it be the backs? Anyone had this problem and what did you do about it? Cheers.

Mine were absolute pains as well. Noise from the brakes even drowned out the exhaust.
Ended up changing to a softer compound (Mintex to EBC) although I found that one reasonable press of the brake (usually at the end of the bypass on my way to work) got the pads hot and the squeal stopped.
No squeal with the EBC pads incidentally.

Ebc
I had Mintex and after a thousand miles or so the noise was doin my head in. So they went and switched to ebc pads discs all round and they where making noise but settled down grand.

Replacing the brake pads should fix your problem. Try replacing the brake pads with genuine parts as aftermarket brake pads have a higher tendency to squeak on some cars. Nways it'll just cost you a few bucks from a reputable shop like Parts Train.
