best size inlet pipe on a 20g ?
going to fit a td05- 20g in the next couple of weeks to my STi5
at the moment it has the std. inlet pipe . What would be the best size to change this to / if at all. I've heard that if you run an inlet with too big a diameter you cannot run much boost at lower revs ? ?
Have all the supporting mods - power fc,avcr,550's,headers,fmic,pump,reg. etc....
any opinions / recommendations ??

cheers guys
Mark - what boost are you running and how is it controlled - mbc, avcr etc ?
John - what sort of boost can i run with Opt + nf with my mods? about 1.6 bar ? ?
I take it the std. inlet will not be too restrictive ?

peak boost I have seen so far is 1.52 bar.
Apparently my 2.5" exhaust is restricting things in higher rev range, so a 3" is on the cards.
Also, have been advised to get a 3 port solenoid (just bought one) as the 2 port can't control the 20g properly.
I'm getting there gradually

Please take a look at my Project thread on this topic if you will.
I think John Banks is spot-on.
My 20g is fantastic, but i do not get 1.5 bar!
Most i've seen is 1.42 at 5500 ish, falling to 1.2 at 7000rpm.
This is with mods like yours and Andy F mapping.
Once gave 407 bhp, but more reasonably 370 bhp/300+ lbft torque.
Good luck!
Graham.

would like a bit more boost as i'm hitting 1.4 on the std. vf28 at the moment. running on an AnyF map.
although reallistically it's more about having a car with a useable power/torque range.

1.4 bar on the 20G will be more flow/power than 1.4 on the VF28 though Iain.
As mentioned, the std 99/00 inlet pipe is up to the job although an APS cold air kit will allow you to get the most from it. The new age inlets are slightly better again.
Mapped an Sti8 a few days ago (1.4 bar from 3200-6000 rpm, tapering down to 1.3 at the limiter) on a similar set up and it made 403bhp and 340lb torque at Dastek.
This was mapped very safely as it is a regular Knockhill track car !

sounds good to me
I haven't got an APS CAIK, but i have a k + n kit with ducting running up from the bumper, an aluminium heat shield between the filter area and the rest of the engine bay, and a mini scoop above the filter.
Andy, can you pm me any dates you have that you will be "down south" ie Birmingham or lower ! and could do a remap for me
cheers Iain.
