Default Electrical Gremlins in Classic?

Hi,

I lent my scooby to my mate at the weekend and he phoned me saying that the revs were hunting between 1500 and 2500. he turned it off and then tried to start again and it just died straight away. after about 5 mins on the phone he tried it again and it seemed to be fine, lambda sensor on the way out? hope not it's not long been replaced.

since i've got it back this problem seems to have gone but the turbo timer cuts out after only a few seconds when it's set for a few mins and now the handbrake light (!) stays on. Is this just the handbrake light or does it have a duel function? I've got an import so the hand book that came with the car is pretty useless to me.

any ideas guys on why it would have been hunting for only a short time and the handbrake light? not tried the switch yet as i've not had time. just seems strange that there's a few electrical things happening at the same time.

cheers in advance for any help.

matt.

ive had similar problems on with my 93 import. I would strongly suggest you get the error codes up and see whats happen'n there. Could be one of many sensors. Start there, theres plenty of help on this site after that.
dont worry!
swift

do you know how to get the error codes up?

excellent. i'll have a go when i get home. see what it comes up with. perhaps it's the thought of me either selling it for an e46 m3 / porker boxster s or getting a 2.5 conversion, complete decat, equal length headers, fmic and a few other goodies.

The link mentioned above is very useful, just follow the instructions.

The connectors are under the steering column. Remove a couple of screws and your in. The two black ones, connect them up, switch the ignition on. (dont start) then the check engine light should 'flash' the error codes at ya. See the instructions for more info. Its easy enough.

Let me know how you get on.

NB If one or more sensors are out, there will be a 'gap' in the error codes, look at it long enough and you should suss it.

will do. i'll be out there with the screwdrivers tonight. i'll put up what's wrong with it as well. it drives ok still. boost it peaking at 0.9 bar and then holds at 0.7 which i think is correct? does smell like it's running rich though and has also been making a few pops from the exhasut when it's hot.

cheers guys for the help.

matt.

lol!!! wouldn't be a brand new one and only one of the early 2.7 boxster s's. apart from that i've only just got a promotion at work and the extra money won't start until i've completed my training. so until then it's fix it yourself time.
