Default Coil packs on the way out ....... ?

Have searched on this But cant seem to find a similar problem.
Anyway fired up the scoob over the weekend and was about to set off, but when letting out the clutch it seemed to kill the engine, the car could not pull its own weight,( idle was a bit rough also) Sh?t myself and called the AA, when he had a look he thought it was only running on 3 cylinders possibly due to faulty spark plug. He then called an impreza owner he knows and advised him that it could be a worn coil pack. While this was taking place the car was left running, and when up to running temp, then took it for a spin and seemed fine & idle was better ?
So what do you reckon ?
Is it ok to drive for the time being ?(May have to travel to get it looked at)
