engine problem-plz help
Just been told that my car doent start because the cam belt has moved a few teeth what does this mean ? what effect does it have to the inside of the engine.
Hi
Depends on how it happened.
Best case scenario is that belt has slipped a few teeth - so that timing is out and car will not run.
Worst case is that piston tops have hit valves - can be quite serious!
Cheers

It all depends on how much the timing/belt has moved slipped etc.
Did they tell you how it happen, what caused it to move/slip etc. Was it a worn belt, knackered tensioner?
If its has moved a great deal then you could have bent the valves?

If the belt has slipped then you will need to expose the belt/cams anf check if all the alignment marks are in the right place.
If not then it will be the tensioner I suspect that has allowed the jump.
Decent specialist will check this in an hour or so.
If valves are bent....
If you are not a DIY'er then call David at www.apiengines.co.uk They do 10 engines a week but are based close to Warwick.
