That is probably because they only pay 2 squid a gallon for the stuff. Why do they recommend it? What evidence/tests have they got or completed when using the stuff in a scoob? How many scoobs have they serviced?

My local Vauxhall dealer uses Mobil 1, i think their normal oil is also mobil 1, and the 10w40 semi synthetic is standard across the Subaru range, including the turbo cars.

AFAIK, the GM oil is actually a re-branded Comma product.
I wouldn't even put it in my 2L 16v Vauxhall engine, let alone the Subaru.
IMO, you are better off going with Motul 300v, Silkolene or a similar Fully Synthetic oil.
Have a search on here - there's loads of info.

There was a thread some time ago regarding this oil and who makes it. If a major manufacturer endorses it, it can't be complete crap!

I'll give it a whirl. They've a good reputation and do plenty of jap stuff (Gti-r's, gto's, supra's etc.) I give it a good run in the early hours when noones looking but no track days and I'll be changing the oil every 3-4000 miles anyway so should be ok. I've never heard of Comma but surely it must meet the standards? If it is Mobil 1 then happy days! I don't know if the cars been run on fully synth it's whole life so would rather use semi (feel free to correct me!) Good to know 10w40 is standard and as JohnD says "If a major manufacturer endorses it, it can't be complete crap!"
Cheers for the replies.

IIRC isn't vauxhall specification oil (General motors actuall have their own oil spec like VW and Merc) extended drain interval stuff capeable of withstanding 18months and 20000miles without changing (even the Astra Turbo
)? If that is so, it is in effect better than your standard semi-synth oils that Subaru specify (think about it
)
Anyhoo, I'm sure it's 5w-30, which on a newage (2000 onwards) Impreza is OK, but I'd plump for something that is abit thicker when hot (5w-40 or a 10w-40) especially if you like to "use" your car

Very cheap and large margins for Dealers.
You can't make a decent oil for £1 per litre, it's basically a mineral oil and I wouldn't use it in a scoob personally.
I would use a 5w-40 fully synthetic in preference. Decent ones don't cost the earth these days but new engines do.
