Default Power steering 02 plate Sti

hi just bought my first subaru last week its an 02 plate blue Sti and within 2-3 days the power steering has stopped working and is realy heavy and is making alot of noise at revs and turning! can any1 help me before i book it into subaru!! cheers

I take it that you've checked the fluid level in the reservoir? I find mine is prone to odd hisses and clicks, but still works.

yea the level is fine and there are no leaks anywhere! was told it must be the pump before it aint working and is making so much noise!

I assume the belt is ok? And not slipping?

yea the belts fine and tight defo not slipping!

Check the power steering pipes have not been crushed. If they are ok then it sounds like the pump.

the pipes are fine to it was working then just stoped one day! looks like its a new pump at £430

There are a lot of Quality re-manufacturers about that will be able to re-con your pump for a lot less than the price of a new one. Just remember to get the sysyem flushed out properly regardles of which type of pump you get. All those metal particles that are now floating round the fluid system will end up wearing out your steering rack seals.
