Question Rebuild Question: Bearings and Crank

i'm currently rebuilding my engine and i'm curious what you'll use.

I'm thinking of a STI crank and Bearings but wonder if there is something stronger?
I know that Axis uses an modified Legacy(?) crank with an extra drilling on their 2.33.
Where to buy and is it realy necessary or do you just weaken them with the drilling?

Any info is appreciated

Tia,

i would use a standard crank with standard mains but would use sti8 big end bearings as they are made out of a better material
their is no point in spending big money on bearings as their are cars out their running 550bhp+ on this set up with no problems the only thing i would suggest is a billet crank if you got 1300 quid to waste

i can't imagine that it has to cost 1300 quid.
I ran STI bearings and one of the main bearing went due to wrong oil :s
So i think i'm pretty safe with the bearings but because the engine is stripped at the moment i wondered if there is something stronger for a reasonable price, if not STI it is
Besides that, the powergoal is 450-500BHP so i should be ok then i gues

out of curiosity, what was the wrong oil you used and what sort of spec were you running?
Was it actually a main bearing or big end bearing that failed?

it was rodbearing number3. So that should be the big end then?

I used to drive in the winter with an 5w40 wich is a fully synthetic oil.
Now i changed back to 10W40 because the can had the same name and spec's but that is an semi synthetic oil and could not handle the 120C oil temp. The fully synthetic had no problem with it.

The 10w40 was sold to me as also a full synthetic but cost me the bigend
We measured everything and it can not be anything else as far as we know.

New engine is gonna use the 15w50 Motul 300V and an specC oilcooler
