I'm looking at fitting a decat next week on my scoob, on my last scoobs I could not get the heat shield to fit and it did create excess heat This time I'm going to wrap the downpipe with heat wrap, reckon I need to wrap anything else while I'm at it?

You can split the heatshield in half and refit the top bit - just drill out the spot welds

but have just looked at a post that says the decat is not good for my car a my98 and need to get a re-mapped, i do not want to get the car re-mapped as this is big money and im not looking to mod the car more.

has anyone had the car blow up on them ect with the full de-cat and not getting the car re-mapped

thanks

Best to get them remapped with full de-cats for sure. Problem is that with a more free flowing exhaust the fueling needs to be matched. Have you modified the air intake - fitted an induction kit for example? If you have done this then I'd say a remap is absolutely essential as the car could be in serious danger of running lean. Many on here have run their cars with full decats and no remap for thousands of miles without problem. It’s your call regarding taking the chance, but a remap will certainly be cheaper than a blown engine. Do a search and you will find all the answers to your questions. Best of luck.

I have a MY98 with full decat and induction kit. No remap and so far no problems. Had an MY99 previously with full decat which i ran for nearly 2 years again with no problems. I had my car on the WRC Tech rolling road 2 weeks ago and they reported it was running fine. In fact they said it was running rich but that was fine as they come out of the factory that way.

Having said that if I could afford a Power FC I would get one!
