IHI Turbo Specs & Upgrade Options
IHI Tubbie q's...
1. Which IHI turbo model is fitted to V5 STi ?
2. Is this bigger & flows more than the other sti's up to that point?
3. What boost is possible on this turbo? (assuming fueling done )
4. What is the upgrade path from this without getting to much lag? Safe 400bhp would be nice.
5. Lastly... are there any newer STi's the turbo can be used from as direct swap?

1. VF28, same at the P1
2. The biggest IHI turbo up to that point was the VF22, which came on the STI 2 and 22B but these are prone to failure over 20psi.
3. Your probably looking about 1.4/1.45 bar midrange with the right fuelling.
4. A good upgrade would be a TD05 18G which is good for 380bhp with minimal lag, or you could choose the 20G which is good for 400bhp + but you will have a lot more lag.
5. You could use the VF34 or VF35 from the newages STI's, but these are only good for about 340/350 bhp.
hope that answers your questions

Great responce
Couple more..
1. I assume the VF28 was released on the V5 STi then only, the VF22 would be fitted to the Earlier STi's?
2. 1.4 Bar, would the stock injectors be maxed out? 100% duty?
3. What are the stock injectors on the V5? 550's the next step?
4. Does the TD05 18G fit the standard manifold and require no mods to fit?
5. Who makes the TD05 18G, price & availablilty?
Thanks again

1. The VF28 came on the STI 5, 6 and P1. you are correct the VF22 came on the STI version 2 and the first 100 Impreza 22B's.
2. The stock injectors will be fine at that boost level. They will max out at about 340bhp, which is not possible on the VF28. I would advise you to upgrade the fuel pump though because when i increased the boost on my STI 3 the fuel pump went quite quickly.
3. The stock injectors on the STI V5 are 440cc, the next step is 550cc injectors if you want 400bhp.
4. The TD05 18g will bolt on to you standard manifold no problem, no mods are required afaik.
5. Andy F will be able to supply you with a TD05 18G. If you search for andy f on here you will be able to contact him for price and availablilty.
