electric fan problems?
Hi peeps,
Can anyone help in a problem I have with MY95wrx. When starting from cold, sometimes difficult to start, (not touching accelerator) When started, after about 30 secs the electric fan kicks in, engine runs ragged. After 30 secs later, fan goes off engine runs normal. This happens 4-5 times then alll O.K. runs spot on. Has anyone come across this problem before. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks,
Jamie.

Most probably the engine coolant temp sensor is on it's way out.
When cold, the ECU is getting a reading out of limits, and assumes the engine is hot (hence fans on, and no cold idle). Eventually you will find it's almost impossible to start the car from cold!
The sensor is located on the top of the engine block, partially hidden by the inlet manifold. Should be able to get a new sensor from the dealer (same as UK Impreza) for around £30 - £40.
Do a search for 'temp sensor' to find some more info.
