Default diff needs repairing!! or replacing?

hi guys

i've had a problem with MY02 wrx,(only done 15700 miles) over the last few days once i've driven it for a little while there is a load clunking noise comeing from the engine bay an you can feel it in the steering, only when thurnig the car left or right. going in a straight line is not a problem.

i spoke to a few different people an they said it sounded like the driveshaft or some said the bearing might be gone.

anyway i've just left it with the local dealer, when i got there i took the mechanic for a a spin but all i had to do was pull out of the parking space and turn the car and he said he already knew from the sound it was the driveshaft,

so next they took it in and put tit on the ramps, and the mechanic said that the diff at the gear box has partially collasped.
they said i shouldn't drive it, so i have left it with them, but they won't start work on it till they have double checked that that is definatly the prob, an give me a price.

i got a bad feeling this is really going to hurt my pocket!!

any advice from someone that knows much about all this.???

cheers

nick

I have never heard of a diff collapsing. But if the diff case is damaged, yes I bet it's gonna cost dearly.
