Default Advice for a Newbie

Hi All
I've just bought my first Subaru, a V reg Turbo Wagon which is exactly what I was after, apart from one thing.....

Can anyone tell me what is involved/required to remove a Dump Valve? What would the down-sides be to removing it? Would it need anything else changing after removing it? Any idea how much the standard replacement part would be? And does anyone want the Dump Valve when I've removed it?

Thanks for any advice.

I also meant to ask.....

Do I need to use Super Unleaded or is normal Unleaded OK for a UK spec car?

Thanks again

Not sure on the dv issue, you could try grade a subaru or the likes for a standard re-circ, but fuel, you will benefit from running the car on super unleaded, even though you can run it on 95, you get smoother response with a higher octane fuel, and dare i say it, better fuel economy!

There's no real down sides to removing it, in fact the other way round, it would prolong the life of the turbo [by how much is another Q though]I tried one to see if there was anything to be gained , sure enough boost seemed different ,not more, just strange ,sort of quicker... certainly not worth the swooshing noise ,altough i can see the attraction.Swapping one over is small potatoes ,you do need to know where all the pipes go to and from and have all the correct piping and suitable jubilee clips or similar,as tony says grade-a breakers are good , i would guess 20-40 quid for a standard one with all pipes and fittings but thats only a guess ,they're only a simple plastic valve assy.
You shouldn't have to change anything else.
Any other mods. to the car?
The best way to figure out how it all fits is to look at another scooby flag one down somitimes if a mate hasn't got one and ask if you can look there bound to be an enthusiast and won't mind...
Happy driving

Many thanks for your help

I'll let you know how I get on. The only other Mod is a K&N cone filter which I'm happy to keep. It's also been de-tango'd

Thanks again.

Have just done the same thing to my car and had the a dump valve taken off and replaced with the standard item.

About £70 plus 10 mins labour from my local garage. So that was about £100 if I remember right

James

Thanks very much for that. I've spoken to my local main dealer and they quoted an hour for the labour - which is 70 quid + vat etc! I'll find someone else to fit it or have a look myself
Thanks again
