Default Car Returned to Standard....problems.

I have just had my MY99 UK turbo returned back to standard, pretty much as it was before adding the mods(Tek 3, full decat, VF30 turbo).

The car ran great before modding it and there was no apparent problems.

The only thing different from before is that I have put an AE801 ECU on the car to replace the Tek 3'd ECU. The original ECU was an AE800.

Before taking it to the garage I put a tenner of normal unleaded in thinking that would be fine as it would be back to standard without any driving in between.

On the drive the home the only way of describing it is that it pulsed when boosting, it got to 4000 rpm, turbo kicked in, held back at 5000 rpm, went again then held back again before kicking in until it reached the red line.

I am slightly worried as to what is causing this, could the original turbo be knackered from just sitting in my shed for 6 months? Or is it the AE801 ECU? Is this the way AE801 ECU's run?

Apart from the above the car feels very bloody fast, theres no smoking, no bad noises, just the pulsing and a smell of burning oil when I am sat at traffic lights/not moving.

Any ideas lads?

Thank you muchly in advance.

did you put the 3(<---i should have said '2') boost control solenoid hoses back in the right places?

My mechanic is ex Subaru and he removed the turbo originally and replaced it with the VF30 so I am quite confident he has.

Do you have any diagrams of the order that they are fitted please?

Incidentally when I got the Tek 3 done they removed the restrictor thingy from one of the pipes, would that effect anything(sorry just remembered that point).

Cheers for your help so far.

Yes, IIRC you do need the restrictor back in or your boost control will go haywire.

Bugger, why do I get the feeling they won't be easy to find.

Is there a size I need to ask for and do any of you guys maybe even have the part number?

You have been most helpful so far, appreciated.

Ps -

What do I ask for? Surely not the "restrictor thingy"?

When I get it which pipe does it go in and how far?

just a thought but would a Dawes device work instead of the restrictor?

With the car being a '99 it should have a 2 port solenoid for boost control, not 3 port.

I would get a restrictor put back into the boost control side of things rather than a Dawes cause it's only a coupkle of quid or so for the brass restrictor against 50 odd quid for a Dawes.
If you have to choose what size restrictor, go for the smallest, you can always drill it out to a bigger size

Ask for the small brass restrictor which goes in to the boost control line, the dealer will understand from there.

Boost control on the '99 as said above is a 2 port solenoid. One hose goes back to inlet, the other goes to a "T" piece which then splits into two. On one side of it, the hose goes to the wastegate (left hand side if you like) and the other goes to the compressor outlet of the turbo. The restrictor fits inside the hose between the "T" and the compressor outlet.

I have a Dawes lying around at home though. Thought if it saved me going to the total useless waste of time that is my local Subaru dealer that would be nice.

I have just put the Dawes on because, and I mean this, £50 is better than going to my local Subaru dealer. The car is running perfect now and once again I owe you lads big time.

SO if any of the guys who replied in this thread want any of the bits I have (VF30 turbo around 25k miles, Tek3'd ECU, Magnex twin dump downpipe) for £50 less than I am selling them for give me a shout.

Magnex - £100(so £50 to any of you)

VF30 - £200(so £150 to any of you)

Tek 3 - £300(so £250 to any of you, do not need your ECU).

Original thread is here - http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...highlight=VF30

The rest of the exhaust has been sold so I was going to put the downpipe on here for £100.

If you don't want any of the bits all I can say is I am most greatful to all that helped.

Cheers.

I was selling the car to use my old Saab as a run around. But after 2 weeks of the Saab while the Impreza was in the garage I have decided to keep the Impreza.

I use my car to go to work and to take the dogs a walk in so I figured I don't need such a car like the Subaru......I was wrong....its great and in all honesty it really doesn't feel any slower as standard than it did before.

I would sell it/part ex it if a BMW M3 came along at the right money, I need something with a bit more leg room(6 foot 4). But as it stands I am very happy with the Impreza.

Hi mate,

A friend of mine has an nice M3 4-door. I'm trying desperatley to get him into Scoob's, plus he's just bought a puppy, so a wagon would suite him down to the ground.

What's the spec/history/mileage of the Scoob and what modded bit's have you got left that we could put back on ??

PM me if you want..... cheers....
