i want to test this and see what mine is, a variety of tests....albeing they wont be 100% scientific (as in they would be done by a passenger with a stop watch...)
would be interesting to see what happens...
30-70 through gears.....
50-70 in 3rd
50-70 in 4th etc....
would make interesting rading if a few of us did that.

very true, could at least get a ball park figure though,
i presumewhen these tests are done the car is basically drivenas hard as poss and the timer is started when a certain speed is reached and stopped when the final speed is reached?
as in, you wouldnt say...."GO" then floor it, surely?

they usually do one run up through the gears and take the 30-70, 60-100 etc from that. Having timing gear that data logs or at least a print out helps..
Not sure about 0-60, I suppose it could be done on same run, but then again they probably do several runs anyway (or at least they should), up/down-hill in/against wind etc... Depends on how accurate they want to be.
Another good bench mark is to find a piece of quiet private road and time yourself between two points from say 30mph. (road signs (private) are good for this). That way you can get a time and a speed over the distance. I've got a piece or road, slightly up hill, where I have done this with my last 3 cars over a number of years.

the standard for test results is that the car has half a tank of fuel, and does 3 runs through the gears all results are taken from datalogger and divded by 3 to get average, top speed is just a blast up something long, and a return blast and divided by 2 again to get average. they also do special runs that get timed like 30-70 in top gear etc, these are normally done seperately

I've been doing this over many weeks and continue to do so (in different conditions etc) and keep averaging out the results so any slight differences are minimised.
Obvously the speedo isn't accurate, however as long as it's a constant, which it is (unless you fit bigger/smaller wheels) then it's a benchmark.
