Default Quick question about fitting an apexi power fc

Do you need to do anything (apart from map the ECU) when fitting this to a car ?

The reason for my question is I had one fitted into my 93 wrx and I crashed it. I have swapped all the modified bits over into my new 93 wrx which was totally standard.

I fitted the Apexi but the car cuts out. I turn it over and its starts but just cuts out. With the standard ECU in it runs fine.

I read on another thread something about changing a pin on the ECU ? I also read on another thread about someone changing the crank sensor or something.

I assumed it would be a straight plug into where the standard ecu came out and map it.

Please help

cheers

These are normally a straight swap for the OE ecu. afaik the only time it's necessary to swap wiing on crank & cam sensors is when fitting to a UK model.

Hopefully someone with technical nounce will put you in the right direction.

For MY93 WRX it's a straight swap... no messing about changing pins etc.

VAL113R

Fitted mine the other week, to the same car as you.
Mine does exactly the same, I just keep it running with a bit of throttle for about 30 seconds then it runs on its own and after about a minute is fine.
Think its just the settings in the PFC for the engine temperatures.
Hoping all will be fine after Andy F has mapped it.

Andy

hi guys, thanks for the reply

the maf is plugged in so it isnt that

it wasn't me who fitted it but I have seen where it goes. Where is the ECU earth ? I don't think that was fitted in the last car as I stripped the apexi out.

@69wrx

I have not tried holding the revs on the car as the neighbours would kill me, it's strange why its doing it isn't it ?

anyone else got any ideas ?

Andy F is away on holdiay but there must be some other Apexi specialists about ?!?

The standard map (i.e fuel/coolant temp settings etc) will idle the car fine without any need to hold the throttle etc. Have you initialised the ecu so it runs the standard map.... this should start, idle and cruise fine. Just to advanced on boost so don't floor it!!!!

Also have you let the ecu do it's idle learning thing?

Hi Tony

I have not done anything with the Ecu apart from fit it.

The ECU came out of my old car which was mapped by Andy F for the EXACT same mods I have fitted to this car. I crashed the other and bought another wrx same year and swapped all the performance bits over.

Every engine is different so I am not wanting to put the car under stress until andy has mapped it again but it should idle with the apexi in shouldnt it ?

Does it start and then idle very low and the die or does it start and idle fine and then just die with no drop?

Could be fault MAF, could be the idle valve is not adjusted correctly, although it idles on the standard ecu one so wouldn't expect it to be that far out.

Do you have a commander? what is the airflow reading if so.

As Andy is your mapper I suggest you wait until he maps it.

Simon
