Question Looking at a Scooby?

Im looking to get myself a Scooby, but i want a UK car as the imports are way to expensive to insure, so i was looking at the Turbo 2000 AWD.

Juat a few questions about them. . . as they are only 208 bhp, was wondering if a exhaust system (milltek, HKS, etc) would make a huge difference with a chip and a induction kit? If anyone knows the power it will be pushing it would be nice to know? also are the 2000's a good scooby? as if they are poo i will not bother and wait till i can afford an STi or something?

Cheers

Dan

I've got a 99 UK Turbo. I bought it for the same reasons you have specified (too much insurance for an import plus the depriciation really stinks if you have an imported car)

To be honest when I first started the 208bhp was fine but have just ordered a Complete H&S System which I am told should provide around 15-20bhp extra. If this is combined with a remap then I should be somewhere near the 250bhp mark.

To be honest my only complaint about the car is the naff interior but again I am of the opinon that I can get it sorted in the future and make it look like I want. In my opinion it is a great base car to start with and with a few choice investments (and a lot of time!) can really be the car you want.

Not so keen on the newer ones but that is just my personal preference. I have also heard that since the classic shape scooby is about 30kgs lighter than the newage ones, the 0-60 times is marginally quicker!

Changing the exhaust, intake and re chipping will also push your insurance up, and if you do not tell the insurance company you wont be covered when you wrap it around something solid!

I have a turbo 2000, mods include a phone holder, cracked windscreen and a chipped fog light, its done over 114K and is an excelelnt and fast workhorse of a car and its always fun to be the old git in the estate car leaving the chaved up Nova or whatever in my wake :-)

Scoobies are great cars, even unmodified (cue abuse from all sides!) and are great fun without any of the ad ons

What I am getting (after lots of searching and scratching my head!) is a Hayward and Scott Exhaust. As you say in the normal exhaust there are two CATS. If performance is your game then ditch both of them. You will have problems with emissions come MOT time though. What I have opted for is a high flow cat in the downpipe and then ditched the other CAT in the centre pipe. I have been assured that this will pass a MOT test and should also release the horses.

I have also ordered an uppipe too to replace the standard one. The whole system (incl VAT) is about £1100 but is a good base to start at when starting the search for power.

I am also going to lag the uppipe and downpipe with some exhaust wrap and this is a practice followed by most Scooby owners but there is some dispute about the results.

Good luck with the modifying if you decide to go ahead with it. the nly thing I would say is to take plenty of time researching what you are going to do. I originally was going to buy an Exhaust from another premium supplier on scoobynet but was dissuaded from this by some other users. Scoobynet is a great pool of knowledge. Use it to your advantage!

Oh, and the other thing is keep your eye out for a bargain. There is always lots of stuff being sold second hand on Scoobynet. It has saved me a fortune and has also help me develop some friendships!

Look forward to some pictures on here in the near future!

Good luck.

You say the insurance for imports is more, but if you try the specialists then ypu can get a much better insurance deal. Plus the fact the imports are much more powerful WRX 240 bhp to UK 215bhp and in later WRX's 260 bhp. They are better equiped and set up better. Also pound for pound on upgrades they easily beat UK models for power gains. Plus the amount you save on your insurance which nowadays with a competitive insurance market. Import insurance is now on a like for like basis, if you shop around. Osbournes, Life-sure etc...I have an V7 STImore powerful better equiped and quicker yet the same as a lower spec less powerfull UK STI.
