Was driving home when i noticed my battery light had come on and power steering was heavy,got home and noticed that the belt was off,tryed to tighten it up,loosened alternator etc. then when i checked it was ok i noticed it was running like a bag of **** and the timing belt had moved slightly,so i tried to tighten that too but it doesnt seem to be working should i stop now and get someone who knows what they are doing or has anyone got any ideas what i should do?

Well, without removing all the plastic covers on the front of the engine, you can't actually do anything to the timing belt, And even with the cover off, you can't 'tighten' it, cos the tensioners are automatic....

So, without being cruel the it would seem to be time to let someone else look at it.......

The power steering and alternator are both operated by the same belt, which is grooved, it is possible for it to have slipped over one groove, which 'could' make it slip under load, it's a long shot, but if the altornator's not giving a full charge, that 'might' make it run roughly.... although I personally doubt it...

Do you have aircon aswell??? cos that has it's own belt... it sounds as though you've tried to adjust two seperate belts......
Did you actually remove any of the plastic shrouds covering the cambelt???

Yeah i have aircon too,tried to tighten the 2 belts seperatly by tightening the 2 bolts that run verticly at the front

Ah.... in order to tighten the belst, you have to undo another bolt which clamps the first one tight...... did you do that? or when you tried to tighten the adjusting bolts were they VERY tight??

Ahh never undone the bolt that clamps the furthest down one,only done that with the top one,it seems to be that,that one is slipping causing the power steering one to be knocked off

no matter what i seem to do,the belt seems to keep on slipping,any ideas?

Look at the driven surface of the belt (the side with the grooves on) , if it has small signs of cracking, if the rubber is starting to perish or is shiny - stick a new one on.
