hi all,a little help is needed please as ive just bought myself a 1993 type ra....standard output is in the region of 240bhp and i was wondering if it was reasonbly easy to bring this up to the 280-300 bhp mark and what difference it would make in performance compared to the standard engine...any help and advice on the best parts to get appreciated

hey mate, try and get hold of a z4 ecu (260 ps as apposed to 240 ps) or if you have the cash a apexi power fc (tune the mods to perfection and get more power)

also people correct me if i am wrong but if it is a R.A i thought/heard that they did not have aircon/electric windows etc.???? anyone else know about this or is it rubbish?

i would get a full de-cat, panel filter, and a scooby ecu remap with upgrade fuel pump and fuel reg. this should get you to 280-300 no problem...

thanks for all the advice.....starting with exhaust, is a mongoose full decat system any good? if not what system is the one to go for? i'd like the rumble of the flat 4 to be heard but not too loud, and of course the best system for power.

www.haywardandscott.co.uk are very good for exhausts. Very reasonably priced and extremely well made. Just had them modify one of their 4.5inch jap style (vortex) backboxes to fit my 3inch bore system. Sounds fantastic!
And i am not kidding, but my scoob has more punch in every gear, might have something to do with it being an angled exit jobby, and the fact my old back box was knackered!

First port of call is to get in touch with Hayward & Scott about getting a better exhaust that will optimise the gasses exiting the engine...Oh & it'll be bloody loud too

Then i'd loose the airbox & fit an induction kit on there. Green ones are pretty well recommended.

Then i'd definately throw in a Walbro fuel pump.

With just those I think you'd be close to the 270BHP mark no probs after spending maybe £800-£900. Flog the exhaust that's on there to make a bit of cash back.

I'd then go down the fuel pressure regulator route (preferably SX or Aeromotive) before finally going down the ECU remap route with some larger injectors. I don't recall if it's got 380's or not but if it has upgrade to 440' for starters & with a remap you could be pushing over 330BHP with a good torque figure to boot.

After that you start spending the big bucks on stuff like headers, FMIC, engine internals...etc...etc... the list goes on! But at least the ECU will be there for re-mapping
