Prodrive backbox from classic, does not fit my classic. Any ideas??
Just bought a secondhand prodrive backbox from ebay and it is great, nice and shiny and all, but doesn't quite fit!
The guy said it was from a 1998 UK classic wagon, and it looks like it should fit, all the hanging points are in the right places, and the exhaust pipe is the right length, with the flange at the right angle.
It just seems that the pipe coming out of the backbox bends down to go under the drive shaft but then it does not bend up enough. I can get the two flanges to mee but when I do the pipe is touching the drive shaft and the top of the backbox is touching the bottom of the car.
My car is a 94WRX wagon and I have fitted an STi backbox from a classic to it no problem.
My only guess is that the 'facelift' car is slightly different, or it's from a newage, or it's bent.
Any ideas??
Cheers.

If mine is for a newage then I'll buy your for what I paid for mine and sell mine to someone else. Any pictures? I'll post pictures of mine on here later tonight to see if anyone know what car it would fit (does look identical to classic fitment though)
The ad definately said 1998 UK classic wagon, so if it is from a newage then perhaps I can get my funds back from the seller - he's only 1/2 hour drive away. How do I know anyone?

pictures here.
I have put a red arrow where I think the pipe should bend up a bit more.

If the exhaust bit has got bent, could I just bend it back somehow?

pslewis, very easy to change backbox (if the new one fits). I bought my STi backbox for a classic for 40 quid from ebay. Prodrive backbox might be 100-150 quid secondhand.

£40 for a STi backbox sounds good - how much life was left in it??

Can't remember 100% but that looks bent to me.
Whether it is newage (bugeye or blobeye) or classic it will fit all models regardless of what year it is for, the shape and connections are identical. The only difference is the location of the single hanger that is in front of the box. That doesn't line up so you're only hanging on 2 of the 3 for the back box if you get the wrong model year back box. This applies when fitting classic to newage and vice versa.

yeah, it was bent, where the pipe enters the backbox. Must have been in a back-ender. I managed to straighten it - here's how: I surrounded back box in cardboard and then gentle lowered the car onto it (!) to act as a clamp. I then got a big pipe and stuck it into the pipe and levered that down. It only had to go about 10 degrees and I managed that quite easily.
