post engine re-build run in tips
Bottom ends been re-built on v5 Type R and am currently running in.
1000miles to do and I'm trying to keep revs under 2500 and under 50mph.
Is this the correct way?
cheers.

This is what I've been told to do by the re-builder. I was just wondering If anyone had any tips or advice to help the process.
Basically had a full bottom end re-build.

make sure you don't just "drone" up and down the m/way at constant revs..............you need variable revs and load thro' this time to ensure a proper bed-in..............

I stayed off boost for the first 1k miles. As for revs I used about 3k for the first 500 miles then occasionally ventured as far as 5k (still off boost) for the next 500 before adding a bit of boost (.5bar) to increase the load on the engine.
As Alyn says, everyone I've spoken to recomends varying the revs and load.

yep, mate just did his, kept it under 4k and no boost for the first 1k, definitely have to vary the revs & load

All replies much appriciated. I was unaware that you had to vary the rev's and loading but will make sure I do.
Funny how the miles go so slow when your running in....be worth it in the end though.
only another 902miles to go but as the car only gets driven once or twice a week...this may take a while!
Thanks Alyn (A.S.P)....your advice is appriciated.

new rings will need full load at lowish revs otherwise they'll never seal proper-like. burying throttle and taking it to 4k in 5th then letting it run back down to 1500rpm then repeat (a lot) is my advice.

Don't keep the revs under 2500rpm, one of the worst things you can do when running a new short motor in is drive it like a baby. Ring seal is a function a cylinder pressure so you need load, which means boost and rpm. I would run .5bar and 6000rpm within the first 200miles or so, but you need to be mindfull that you will have mineral oil in it, so make sure you keep the heat cycles in check.

if you have a boost controller set it low, otherwise follow my above advice except hold the boost lower by less gas.
