tuning an early sti?
i have some rolling road graphs from the previous owner of my MY95 sti ra V-LTD showing 287 bhp from what i think is just a power engineering downpipe and full system (i have receipts for them) but where would i go from there?
i would really like an apexi remap to run uk fuel but can you also gain power from that?
iv'e heard the very early sti's are good for tuning but i dont know why?
be quite a while before i can do anything to her
cheers guys?

At the risk of boring you:
If you are looking for a 350 bhp engine:
Fitting an Apexi FC will be a good move (£700) and it can be mapped for UK fuels.
Your car was probably RR'd on Optimax.
Next move is to add a TD05 18 or turbo (£850), but a 16g will do well. You may want to convert this to a front entry as your current turbo I think is a side entry.
With the above you could do with a good intercooler, maybe a front mounted one.
As insuance, a Walbro fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator.
That lot will cost about £3000 all done and fitted. The car will be electric in comparison.
The STi's have lots of good engine parts, rev like mad and have some good cams too.
If you REALLY want to see what is involved go to my Projects thread, (911).
It is a very long read, but the first 10 pages says it all.
I finished up with 407 bhp.
This is a lot of work for a 30% power gain; the car is quicker, but the manners are not so nice as the stock Sti engine. Think carefully about what you are seeking.
The car will be quick with the stock engine and a very good go at the chassis/brakes/tyres.(IMHO)
Graham.

thanks 911
350 sounds nice!could this be done in stages or have to be done all at once for the remap?
can't imagine much more than 350 with my super short gearing!constantly changeing gear.....would be fun though!
i have bilstein coilovers and 4 pots with drilled and grooved discs front and back which i think is awsome and good enough for me
thanks again mate

Big bear makes a good point.
Doing the above in stages I think is difficult as you will end up mapping and re mapping.
Most on here seem to collect all the bits and do a Full Monte in one go (that's what I did too).
Graham.

ah cheers guys!
i'm guessing it would be better to buy everything brand new rather than searching for second hand parts so everything is 100% and no problems?
