Default Dump Valve Problem?

After taking my car in to have the clutch and slave cylinder replaced I got the car back with a broken dump valve!

I didn't realise for the first 30 miles (a bit paranoid about the new clutch!) and drove another 30 miles knowing it was broken (the small bit that sticks out for the thinner pipe).

I have since changed it, but am getting a strange "higher pitched/slight vibrating" noise when approaching 2.5k revs.

Does anyone know what this could be? Have I damaged something by driving with the broken dump valve or could it be something else that the garage broke?!

Thanks,

Mark.

Forgot to mention, the previous and current dump valves are standard (UK98 Car)
