Oil Plan
Does this seem a reasonable idea.
Been troubled for a while with a bit of tappet noise, not all the time, just now and then. (STI II, but Hydraulic tappets)
My plan is
1 . Get the car nice and hot and drain the oil, take off filter (Done)
2. Leave the drain plug out, oil cap off, dip stick up, for the next few days, with the car raised up at the near side.
3. Fill the car with cheap oil (Mobil 1 Motorsport) to the min mark, and new filter, taking into account all the normal procedures.
4. Drive a few miles like this, then add 500ml of power steering fluid.
5. Drive a few hundred miles like this, no boost and no hi revs, etc.
6. Change oil again, but only leave drain plug out for an hour or so.
7. Refill with Motul oil that I normally use.
If this doesn't cure it, then change the heads for a set with solid tappets.
