Which oil for hot climates
apologies for yet another bl**dy oil thread
Have finally sold my car..to a guy from Malta, was going to drop the oil coz its almost due.
What oil would peeps think would go with the much warmer climate that it will be running in ?? It gets bloody hot over there.
I was thinking of something like 10w - 60, any thoughts.
cheers

Why such high viscosity oils for every day use?
I have many friends with WRX's and STI's quite modified (some with more than 1.5bar boost, others with 2.5lt conversion, stroker kits etc) and most of them use Motul Chrono 10W/40 all year long without problems.
Of course they don't use their cars very hard (track days) but we have about 35-40C degrees the summer and they "drag" them in traffic lights etc.
I would use 15W/50 V300 the summer and 5 or 10W/40 the winter!

Bit hotter than Malta here!
I'm running 15W50 Motul 300V Competition. Just completed a trackday with external air temp (as recorded by the standard sensor) at 48C (at the highest - lowest was approx 36C at 07:00!)
Oil temp was maximum 132C (that's with a 16 row cooler!), water temp maximum of 107C
New radiator on order to try an control the temps a bit more.
Oil stood up to it fine, and is in fact still golden rather than black!
Luckily that was the last trackday before summer starts - and the tempratures go up!
If the car is used for long enought to get the oil up to temperature every time, then 15W50 should be finr. If there are a number of short journeys, 10W40 is probably better
All just IMHO though!
