You would however have a mint motor (your words) that had an as good as new engine you know had not been thrashed! Better the devil you know etc blah.

Still offer him less though to take into account the hassle of sorting the rebuild etc.

Go for £1250 mate, £2k (as said for replacement and hassles) worth of engine.
Also wonder why it blew up, any induction kit fitted ? Tell him u want to budget in replacement MAF and Lambda sensors. plus anything you cant see because engines not running. Also might as well do the clutch if you go for it.

He blew it up doin a 140mph over a hill and the oil level in the engine shifted and blew a whole in the side of his engine, its a shame cos he hasnt used it and its just sittin on his drive totally un-used.

could be a cheap scooby
pick up a second hand engine £6-800 ish
fit a new cambelt and oil & filter
if you can swap yourself all the better
or £200 for someone else to fit it should be someone on the forum local to you that can swap it for you

It'll be worth doing if the car is a minter, any extra you can get off it will help, try HDC Subaru for a secondhand motor £800 ish, swap it yourself and its a cheap WRX.
