Having just removed 2 pistons from my old engine. Supposedly from a version 2 Sti engine.
How can you tell if they are forged pistons or cast.
They seem a bit heavy to me.

Any idea's?

 

Sti 2's have forged pistons for sure. As far as how to tell the diff i am not sure....ask a person that knows about metals.

What was your rev limit 7200?
My heads had hydraulic tappets rev limit was above.

So how heavy are they?

Cast pistons will have a grid pattern cast into the underside, the forged will be smooth. The sti 2 should have forged pistons.

Just had another quick look, they are all smooth underneath with embossed/raised lettering 'HF2' in the centre. No scales at the moment will try to weight them later.
How heavy should they be anyway?

I do own an sti2 and the rev limit was 7200rpm as standard but i now run 7000rpm on my powerfc for safety and also no point going above as the heads are not as good as the v3 ones.
