Default boost problem

help needed,
i just purchased a 200 turbo, which boosted up to 20 psi, speaking to people i now know this was fatal if left. so i removed a brass bleed valve that i found on the turbo actuator. now i can only make about 8 psi, is this the norm or should it be more ??
also i want to take the car to about 280-90 bhp can i achieve this with a re-map or is there more i need to do first.
as u can see i'm new to this and need some good advice, not cash making shop advice..

max boost is around 1.1 bar, just over 15 psi, try cleaning the boost solenoid with carburettor cleaner.

you can use the brass bleed valve (Dawes Device) but as long as you are careful with it, I'd recommend you use a boost gauge in conjunction with it.

Your mods should be a full decat, K&N or Green Cotton panel filter and an uprated fuel pump, such as a Walbro 255l, as older impreza's fule pump have a tendency to lean out under heavy boost.

What I say is NOT gospel, but is a guide, have a chat with a scooby specialist and see what they have to say

thanx 4 that, i do have a de-cat system, induction kit and boost gauge.

as far as i know thats it. so i took off the bleed valve to stop any damage.
but i did think even standard it should boost more than 8-9 psi.

Hi,

no,the actuator should be left alone. the boost solenoid is on the left hand side as the look at the engine, by the suspension turret. it should have three pipes coming off of it. if it's a standard uk2000 then i would estimate the boost should be about 12psi. i would make a knocklink one of your first purchases. this will help monitor for det caused by high boost etc.
