timing advance and knocklink/det experts look here
I have a 94WRX that has been remapped with programmable scoobyecu eproms. I was very happy with my map but when the COLD weather set in I found that I overboosted slightly and got occasional det under full boost.
I got the map altered (boost reduced by 5% and timing retarded by 2 degrees at full boost).
Much much better - boost target I wanted (16psi), and much less det.
Det was totally removed with an upgraded intercooler (2002 tmic).
So the car has run brilliantly but with the warmer weather I wonder if I have sacrificed power with that 2 degree timing retardation. Perhaps the det was more to do with the crappy IC and not the timing.
The knockling never shows above one green in cold conditions and now in warm conditions I only light one green occasionally.
So it is a very safe map and the car does seem to go well. I just can't help wondering if those extra 2 degrees of advance would be of benefit to me now it's summer.
Comments?
Question: how much difference to power does 2 degrees of advance make?
