Default which guages to fit?

hi, hopefully i will be owning a MY99 or MY00 scoob in the next few months so trying to do as much homework on them beforehand. ive searched for these questions through the archives but cannot find out the answer i require.

im just wondering the best combination of guages to fit are? i previously had an Autometer AFR and boost guage in my vauxhall calibra turbo and was perfectly happy and could see it was running correctly. now that i may be spending a bit more cash on a subaru i want to make sure that i am getting all the info that is really required, and why its necessary. like is oil pressure and temp and a boost guage more important than an AFR, water temp and exhaust temp etc, im sure you get the drift.

also ive seen a few installs in a dash mounted pod, could anyone point me towards a place to get these pods cheap and also a handy DIY guide showing how easy it is to install. is the wiring up of these guages into that pod fairly easy to do?

that is very interesting indeed! although its put me off a little, i wasnt aware quite so much hard work was involved ha ha. suppose i would give it a go though, pity his guide is for a pillar mounting, is there similar for the centre top cubby hole?

Kev, finally taking the plunge then?

I'd recommend a set of Defi gauges. My first set looked like this...

..and my current ones look like this...

Pod is a JW Racing one and they're relatively cheap new although i bought mine second hand and ready-painted.

Most go for Oil Temp and Oil/Boost Pressure. I went for Water Temp and Oil/Boost Pressure the first time and Oil/Boost/Fuel pressure the second time. Oil pressure gives a fair indication of temperature anyway once you get used to where the gauges sits on cold/warm idle.

PS: if you need a hand fitting them i'm not too far away.

oh hey carl, long time no hear!!!

that looks excellent indeed! just what id like.

im missing my speed thrill since selling the calibra turbo but also require something fairly new and reliable for work so i thought 'what the hell' ive always wanted one and have enough cash at the moment so i may as well get one before we have to get a bigger house or any sprogs come along.

just need to wait til im 25 in august and sell my current vectra then the hunt begins.

p.s. dont you worry ill hold you to that offer lol
