Default You and your MAF Sensor Scare Stories!!

My Impreza has now started to hesitate more than normal!!

The idle speed rises quite sharply in the morning .....

No CEL light yet though ...

or is it just you lot scaring the pants off me that I am imagining things!!

28 MPG does seem rather good

pete, try doing an ecu reset. the problem with the maf failing i find is that as it starts to fail. the other sensors on the car tend to try and compensate for its failure,so the car doesnt do anything seriously out of the normal.by doing the ecu reset, your basically draining the memory in the ecu.so after its done the car/ecu cqannot compensate for the maf.so the car should run worse than before ,as its now trying to rely on a faulty sensor.=rough idle + might cut out.

hope thats some help, pete.

Another trick which might help is when the car is idling, disconnect the maf sensor and if the car DOES NOT cut out, then there is a good chance that the sensor is gone.

Don't waste your breath mate, he's been told all this on another thread, all he does is come back with what his pea sized brain regards as a smartarse response. In all seriousness, let him blow the bloody thing up. It's not like the car isn't wasted on him anyway.

Pete you may not be wrong, mine was gradually getting weaker on the wideband AFR (in open loop) so removed the MAF (new age ) and very carefully cleaned the two inside electronic bits with cotton bud and methylated spirit. Amazed how much **** came off on the cotton bud. Refitted MAF and AFR back to normal and wallet still intact!
