Question Holding Back Under Excelleration.......

Has anyone experienced this before..........

Car holds back when excellerating, more noticable in 4th & 5th from 70 upwards
started doing it after a progressive drive the other week

Thought it might be the MAF so fitted a new one along with an STI Panel Filter but has not made any difference.

Could it be the Lambda Sensor (don't know what this does?
or the boost solenoid?

Standard RB5 Prodrive apart from STI filter and Afterburner Centre and Back Box.

Any help appreciated before I have to donate a Kidney and stick it in to the Main Dealers.....

My MY99 was like this, although is used to surge (like a pulsing with an audible change in the turbo noise) a bit also. It was the solenoid clogged up with oil. A clean with carb cleaner cured it.

If at 4k revs then more likely to be plug breakdown, coilpacks then lamda or MAF

I just took the valve off and sprayed the cleaner into it a few times then let it dry and refitted. The problem was caused by a previous owner/ or dealer, overfilling the oil by misreading the dipstick

I've just picked up my new 99my and i've had the same problem on the way home down the motorway. Stick your foot and watch the boost gauge surge from between just over 1 bar down to 0.5 bar. Does this 3 or 4 times and then settles in!?

Is cleaning out the boost solenoid the best method of sorting it or is it possibly something more serious??
