Engine cutting out
Driving along in my 98 turbo estate, just on carriageway at 40, the engine lost all power. I coasted the car to a pull in point and it showed the CEL. Went to start the car straight away and it was fine again. Its done this a few times now. I cleaned the MAF sesnsor back in january for maintenance sake, do I need a new one, or could it be something else? To be honest i dont want to pay out for a new MAF when it turns out to be something else, i think mine is the expensive type!!!!
Iv had all sorts of suggestions from the mechanics at work - crank sensor, alternator/battery, fuel filter, etc. But i know you guys know best

If the CEL comes on again read the ECU fault codes. If you do a search on here for code reading there is a link which some very helpful scooby owner posted on how to read the codes. It is much easier than it sounds. I have just replaced the MAH on my 96' sti. It was the pricey one. think it was about £200 instead of the usual £80. Is your car hunting on idle a lot, especially after giving the car a good blast? Another symptom that I had was the car trying to throw me through the window on heavy boost when the car was trying to get into limp home mode. Good luck! I'll see if i still have the link later when i get back.
