Guys
I'm about to take the engine out of my UK 200 turbo awd (98) , and I just want to make sure the jacking points I intend using are "ok".
Firstly
1) Anyone DONE this job already ? (ANY help / hints / tips would be GREATLY appreciated ... )
2) Jacking points
Had a look underneath , and the ideal LIFTING point seems to be under the square section of the frame which seems to "hold" the engine. (It seems to have 4 bolts in it).
In terms of where to put the axle stands , there seems to be two plates (one on each side of the car), a few inches behind the front wheels, near the sills, which have a 3/4" hole in them. They are flat , and they taper slightly towards the inner side of the car, (so .. I'm guessing , plate is 3" wide at outer, and 2.5" wide at inner). (Are they the right points ?)
My only nervousness is, .. are axle stands actually OK for this ? I've been using axle stands for 20 yrs on/off, but the "U" shape of an axle stand ... dunno , just a nagging doubt. Should I be looking for something which has a flat top ?
The posh workshops seem to have these machines which are not the full blown mega huge ramp, but more like a jack with 4 arms, and each arm has like a cup on the end.
Help ..
