Default Simple Exhaust temp guage

Has anybody tride drilling say a 1.5mm hole in the headers and sliding in a k-type thermocouple in from a multimeter?

Yes, I prefer the 3.0mm probes, but I have bought a manifold which has a 1.5mm probe in each runner.

sweet i might do some drilling then. be good to see were i am with this thing(car).

well i did this today and: cruise at 100km/h in 5th is 570deg C and 1.1bar flat out in 4th the max the multimeter recorded was 820deg C.

Sounds quite sensible. However, sustained high load on some setups can make the EGT keep rising at vmax - hence some of the failures IMHO. Many factory ECUs actually run the mixtures and boost around EGT measurements for this reason. vmax is not sensible on the public roads though...
